With more than 140 years of history, the financial service company Ibercaja is deeply invested in the north-east region of Spain. In order to support its rural clients and solve the local water scarcity problems, the company now helps farmers to digitally transform their crop management.
Key to this transformation are “Internet of Things“ enabled boxes that collect real-time data from the farmer’s fields. With their multiple sensors, these powerful IoT devices measure hyperlocal information about temperature, light, humidity, wind and soil moisture.
Once transmitted to the cloud, this data helps farmers make vital decisions. By taking advantage of AI and new cloud-based technologies, they know exactly when to water, fertilise, sow and harvest.
And that’s good for all of us: Farmers generate better crop yields while saving time, energy and millions of litres of water per year. And Ibercaja is able to grow its customer relationships while taking responsibility for our planet.
“We want to be the bank that really helps our customers and their communities take advantage of digital information.”
Victor Royo Escosa, Head of Digital Strategy and Innovation at Ibercaja
