Data as the\u00a0new foundation for construction<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Historically, construction has grappled with fragmented data, siloed information, and reactive decision-making. However, a powerful trend is\u00a0emerging: the recognition that unified, accessible data is the bedrock for competitive advantage.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the pioneers\u00a0of\u00a0digital transformation in the construction sector\u00a0is Van\u00a0Wijnen, a Dutch construction company\u00a0operating\u00a0primarily in the housing market.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently\u00a0a hugely problematic sector,\u00a0Dutch housing is\u00a0grappling with a shortage of more than 400,000 homes\u00a0and unaffordable prices\u00a0\u2013 leaving thousands of people unable to get their foot on the housing ladder.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To help tackle this issue, the company has decided to do something truly original and unprecedented:\u00a0build a factory where robots make customized houses.\u00a0Sitting on a strip of land between two canals in the town of Heerenveen, the factory has the potential to eventually produce 4,000 homes per year.\u00a0All powered by Microsoft technology.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe technology that powers the production line runs on the\u00a0<\/span>Azure Cloud Computing<\/span><\/a>\u00a0platform and business processes are supported by the\u00a0<\/span>Microsoft Dynamics 365<\/span><\/a>\u00a0platform,\u201d Richard Werners, Enterprise Architect at Van\u00a0Wijnen\u00a0recently told us.\u00a0\u201cCloud technology provides the scalability and computing power we need to\u00a0validate\u00a0all the designs and generate data to drive the production process.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are almost two million rules to check that everything fits together. It can take up to two days to\u00a0validate\u00a0everything.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
