I dag kommer vi med et nytt l\u00f8fte til v\u00e5re virksomhetskunder i privat og offentlig sektor innen EU\/E\u00d8S. Ingen skal beh\u00f8ve \u00e5 uroe seg for om dataene flyttes ut av EU n\u00e5r de bruker v\u00e5re skytjenester. Vi trenger med andre ord ikke \u00e5 flytte dataene dine utenfor EU. Denne forpliktelsen vil gjelde p\u00e5 tvers av alle Microsofts skytjenester som Azure, Microsoft 365 og Dynamics 365. Today we are announcing a new pledge for the European Union. If you are a commercial or public sector customer in\u202fthe EU, we will go beyond our existing data storage commitments and enable you to process and store all your data in the EU. In other words, we will not need to move your data outside\u202fthe EU. This commitment will apply across all of Microsoft\u2019s core cloud services \u2013 Azure, Microsoft 365,\u202fand Dynamics 365. We are beginning work immediately on this added step,\u202fand we will complete by the end of next year the implementation of all engineering work needed to execute on it. We\u2019re calling this plan the EU Data Boundary for the Microsoft Cloud.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u202fnew step we\u2019re taking\u202fbuilds\u202fon\u202four\u202falready strong\u202fportfolio\u202fof\u202fsolutions\u202fand\u202fcommitments\u202fthat\u202fprotect\u202four\u202fcustomers\u2019\u202fdata, and we hope today\u2019s update is another step toward responding to customers that want even greater data residency commitments.\u202fWe\u202fwill\u202fcontinue to\u202fconsult\u202fwith\u202fcustomers\u202fand\u202fregulators\u202fabout\u202fthis\u202fplan\u202fin\u202fthe\u202fcoming\u202fmonths, including adjustments that are needed in unique circumstances like cybersecurity,\u202fand\u202fwe will\u202fmove\u202fforward\u202fin\u202fa\u202fway\u202fthat\u202fis\u202fresponsive\u202fto\u202ftheir\u202ffeedback.\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Microsoft\u202fcloud\u202fservices\u202falready comply\u202fwith\u202for exceed\u202fEU\u202fguidelines\u202feven\u202fbefore\u202fthe plan we\u2019re announcing today.\u202fWe\u202falready\u202fprovide\u202fcommercial\u202fand\u202fpublic\u202fsector\u202fcustomers\u202fthe\u202fchoice\u202fto\u202fhave\u202fdata\u202fstored\u202fin\u202fthe\u202fEU, and\u202fmany\u202fAzure\u202fcloud\u202fservices\u202fcan\u202f<\/span>already be configured<\/span><\/a>\u202fto\u202fprocess\u202fdata\u202fin\u202fthe EU as well.\u202fIn\u202faddition,\u202fwe\u202fuse\u202fworld-class\u202fencryption\u202fand\u202frobust\u202flockbox\u202fsolutions\u202fthat\u202fmeet\u202fcurrent\u202fregulatory\u202fguidance.
\nMany\u202fof\u202four\u202fservices\u202fput\u202fcontrol\u202fof\u202fcustomer\u202fdata\u202fencryption\u202fin\u202fcustomers\u2019 hands through the use of customer-managed keys, and we\u202f<\/span>defend\u202four\u202fcustomers\u2019\u202fdata<\/span><\/a>\u202ffrom\u202fimproper\u202faccess\u202fby\u202fany\u202fgovernment\u202fin\u202fthe\u202fworld.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have already begun engineering work so our core cloud services will both store and process in the EU all personal data of our EU commercial and public sector\u202fcustomers, if\u202fthey so choose. This plan includes any personal data in diagnostic data and service-generated data, and personal data we use to provide technical support. We will also extend technical controls such as Lockbox and customer-managed encryption for customer data across Microsoft core cloud services.\u202fWe will build these EU Data Boundary Solutions into our core cloud services to enhance our current offerings for customers.\u202fWe will conduct an EU Cloud Customer Summit this fall where we will share more about this work.\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today\u2019s update is part of\u202four commitment\u202fto the EU\u2019s vision for a \u201cEurope Fit for the Digital Age,\u201d and an\u202facknowledgement\u202fof the role the technology sector needs to play in helping Europe realize its digital aspirations. In addition to processing our commercial and public sector customers\u2019 personal data in Europe, we are also creating a Privacy Engineering Center of Excellence in Dublin to guide our European customers in choosing the right solutions for building robust data protection into their cloud workloads, including to meet regulatory requirements. We are committed to helping build \u201c<\/span>Tech Fit 4 Europe<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u201d\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our EU Data Boundary for the Microsoft Cloud will be powered by our substantial and ongoing investments in an expansive European datacenter infrastructure. We opened our first datacenter in Europe in 2009, and\u202four EU Data Boundary for the Microsoft Cloud\u202fwill leverage\u202fdatacenters we\u2019ve announced or currently operate in 13 countries: Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. These datacenters power cloud services that help our European customers realize their ambitions to achieve digital transformation and increase their competitiveness with the assurance that they can operate in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.\u202fIn addition to customers in EU member states, customers in Norway and Switzerland will also have access to the EU Data Boundary.\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Microsoft has long demonstrated our\u202fcommitment\u202fto meet and exceed the requirements of EU data protection laws. For instance, we were the first major technology company to\u202f<\/span>affirm our\u202fcompliance\u202fwith the GDPR and to extend core GDPR rights and protections to our consumer customers globally<\/span><\/a>\u2014not just to those in the EU. In addition, following the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) draft recommendations on measures that companies should implement as a result of the\u202f<\/span>Schrems\u202fII<\/span><\/i>\u202fdecision, we announced our\u202f<\/span>Defending\u202fYour\u202fData<\/span><\/a>\u202finitiative, which extends beyond the EDPB recommendations. We will challenge every government request for an EU public sector or commercial customer\u2019s personal data\u2014from any government\u2014where there is a lawful basis for doing so. And we will provide monetary compensation to our customers\u2019 users if we disclose data in violation of the GDPR that causes harm.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Microsoft will\u202f<\/span>continue to do all we can<\/span><\/a>\u202fto encourage government leaders on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond to address lawful access issues quickly. We\u2019re encouraged by the ongoing discussions between the European Commission and the United States government to build a new framework for Europeans\u2019 personal data that is transferred to the United States. We are optimistic that there will be a resolution\u202fin the near future.\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
