What are the G\u00c9ANT cloud frameworks?<\/h2>\n
Since 2016, G\u00c9ANT, the collaboration of European National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), has led a series of cloud frameworks, aimed at streamlining procurement of cloud services for research and education (R&E) institutions across Europe and establishing framework agreements with cloud service providers tailored to the unique needs of the R&E community. By creating a unified approach, the G\u00c9ANT cloud frameworks eliminate the need for individual institutions to conduct their own tenders, reducing both the cost and complexity associated with cloud service procurement.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\nThe OCRE 2024 Framework<\/h2>\n
The latest evolution of the G\u00c9ANT cloud frameworks is OCRE 2024. <\/strong>Officially available from February 3, 2025, the OCRE 2024 Framework is set to operate for five years, providing a stable and reliable foundation for research and education organizations to access cloud technologies. Developed by G\u00c9ANT in collaboration with its community of European National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), the framework builds upon previous successes\u20142016 IaaS, 2020 IaaS+ (also known as OCRE)\u2014continually refining the processes that enable digital transformation in research and education.<\/p>\n
OCRE 2024 cloud service offerings can be procured by an impressive range of R&E organizations across Europe, as well as by public institutions connected to European NRENs. Eligible institutions per participating country<\/a> are listed on the G\u00c9ANT Clouds website, together with guides to using the framework<\/a> and NREN cloud contacts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Microsoft Education AI Toolkit<\/strong> (aka.ms\/eduaitoolkit<\/a>) brings together policy guidance, real\u2011world university examples, and research\u2011informed insights to support this journey.<\/p>\n
Through its AI Navigators<\/strong>, the toolkit highlights how early\u2011adopter universities are using AI to accelerate research analysis, personalize learning, and modernize operations\u2014while maintaining governance, compliance, and trust. It also shows how AI can enable collaboration across multi\u2011institution research programs and support secure environments for sensitive data.<\/p>\n
